Spirit of Giving: 10 Nonprofits To Support In Manville

MANVILLE, NJ — It's easy to find a charity. Swing a stick and you'll hit some organization, somewhere, raising money for some cause. But many want to keep it truly local, and help the neighbors around you or the charities that operate right in your community.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season on Nov. 28. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources, said the organization.

- ELLE Foundation: The only wish granting organization whose primary mission is to grant wishes for children with a recurrence of cancer.
- Sikh Research Institute: SikhRI connects people with the teachings of Sikhi and strengthens the bonds of the Sikh community around the world by offering courses and seminars in a variety of mediums.
- Somerset Regional Animal Shelter: Every year they take in nearly 1,000 animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, and more. In addition to finding these animals their forever homes, they provide: Behavior modification, animal control, affordable spay and neuter, and pet retention programs.
- St. Huberts Animal Welfare Center: St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center is dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. They believe in and provide services that support the human-animal bond and seek to foster an environment in which people respect all living creatures.
- The Quaid R Mobus Foundation: The Quaid R. Mobus Foundation is dedicated to providing support, assistance, information, education, resources and most of all hope to families afflicted with spinal cord injuries.
- Wagner Farm Arboretum Inc: Wagner Farm Arboretum seeks to enrich, educate and inspire the community by increasing environmental awareness and recreational opportunities.
- Diva For A Day Foundation: A non-profit organization founded in 2010 by two friends who recognize the benefits of a day to escape from the daily stresses a woman will face while dealing with cancer. Through the program, special Divas are selected each month to enjoy a complete day of pampering, at a participating salon/spa.
- Cure For IBD: The foundation raises funds for research towards new therapies and cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to raise global awareness of Inflammatory Bowel Disease by empowering both adults and children to join their fundraising efforts.
- Steps Together: A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring the community to pay their blessings forward and support families facing a medical crisis.
- Safe+Sound Somerset: Their mission is to empower survivors of domestic abuse and engage the community to break the cycle of violence.
