Count on Yourself: May is 'Me' Month! Happy Mother’s Day
"Inspiring people to get their minds and bodies, hearts and souls moving."

In honor of women of all ages and stages of their lives, and of course Mother’s Day this coming Sunday, I asked an online women’s group this question: “What does May is Me Month mean to you? What are you willing to commit to doing this month that will improve your well-being?
The replies were so wonderfully candid and motivating. The women quoted here said that by stating their intentions they hope to be more accountable, having a better shot at success. Also if these women would like to keep us posted along the way – I invite them to do so. Maybe we will check back after Memorial Day to see how their commitments played out.

“I haven't exercised in a long, long time because of my pulmonary condition. But now that I am much better, I am committing to building an exercise routine, along with making better nutritional choices. I will start TODAY by taking myself out with my dog for a nice long walk. I am a fabulously curvaceous, pleasingly plump woman, confident and ready for healthy changes in my life. The ME month will be my way to decompress, reflect, refocus, re-energize...soon I will be a lean & mean walking machine."

“I went back to Pilates yesterday after 12 years of not doing it and not exercising consistently for way too long. I'm committed to an exercise program that will help me feel strong and improve my appearance.”
“Risa, I love the idea of Me Month. I'm willing to commit to ramping up my cross training in preparation for the Danskin and Jersey Girls Triathlons; and to being consistent in my workouts so that I'll be able to do pull-ups by the end of the year. I was completely humbled when I realized that for all my strength I couldn't budge to do one.”
Lisa Low:
“I am committed to carving out of my schedule time for me: sleeping, exercising and volunteering. I need to create more balance in my family as sometimes, I feel taken advantage of. I work more than full time. I am primary care-giver to my four year old son, do all the cleaning, cooking, yard work, laundry, and grocery shopping and sometimes I am pissed off on Tuesday mornings when the list of to do's for everyone else is longer than I can handle!
“I am willing to continue my commitment to being a brave entrepreneur. I am also willing to commit to being more consistent in my own personal training this month. I've realized recently that I tend to desert myself during stressful times. This is a pattern that I am committed to breaking.”
Wendy Cobrda:
“I'm going to make May my ME month. I'm going to clean out my closets (rid myself of things that don't fit), continue on my food cleanse, and add walking each day to the routine. I am also committed to more date nights with my husband.”
Wow! I’m in good company – I feel a bit like OPRAH, just kidding - here on Patch. Thank you to the women here who are sharing their goals and intentions.
My personal commitment this month: As I age, I realize that I need more ME time. I cherish quiet moments and joyful experiences with my family. I love my walking, and of course now that the weather is so delicious I will be on foot a whole lot more. And, I need to get back to some serious weight lifting for my bones…and get ready for the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce Awards dinner early June.
