Engage-Maplewood

Engage Maplewood has grown from a discussion among a small group of residents and merchants within Maplewood. Our conversation began around a shared sense that there is an uncharacteristically disjoint quality to the nature of public discourse within our community. We share a common sense of pride and gratefulness for the opportunity to live here, yet in many civic matters it seems that building a common sense of cause, or "why", escapes us as a community. Our founding group does not know for sure why this is, but in a short period of time we've heard these sentiments expressed from a great many Maplewoodians. Engage-Maplewood has formed to open a dialogue on this issue with the purpose of improving the vibrancy and effectiveness of civic discourse in our community. At our first community meeting most attending saw the Maplewood Post Office Redevelopment planning process as an excellent example of a civic topic that seems to lack a common sense of cause, or "why". As an initial activity we've chosen to seek increased understanding within our community as to the planned uses for the current post office site when the post office vacates later this year.
