Is it Art or is it Technology?

Is art subjective, Yeah it really is

When people talk about art, most times paintings or photos or sculptures come to mind.

As a part-time blogger and full-time geek, when I think of art, I think of a beautiful new gadget or device. While on location at the most recent CES a couple months back, I was lucky enough to see some incredible pieces of usable artwork.

As part of Lenovo's "What's your idea of fun" campaign, the world's best PC modders put together some pretty outstanding creations. The finished products were displayed alongside Lenovo's new product line at the Aquaknox Restaurant in the Venetian hotel.

Here is what I had a glimpse of....

Level 12
Hidden inside this Trojan horse is a performance-upgraded IdeaCentre H320 laptop. Loaded with extra fans and cooling ducts (it gets hot inside a wooden box), four front-mounted USB 3.0 ports and optical drives, this thing doesn't only look cool--it's also usable. The mad modder, Jeffery Stephenson, should be proud that his high school wood-shop skills paid off.

 Lenovo Ice
When water and electricity aren't coming together to form deadly electric shocks, they're forming The Ice, a Lenovo desktop powered by an IdeaCentre K320. The whole package is enclosed inside a clear acrylic glass with custom lighting that illuminates the water cooling system as well as the red, green and blue fans that keep this iceberg cool.

Uberlux
Alex Wiley must have forgotten that we're in a recession. Sporting roughly $10,000 in diamonds (the logo lights up when powered on), a platinum-plated cover and white-gold base, the Uberlux is the kind of thing you might see around Kanye West's neck.

MD-5
Inspired by the 1986 geek classic "Short Circuit," this "Johnny 5"-looking creation brings both joy and tears to those of us who remember seeing the movie in theaters. Created by Chris Blarsky, the MD-5 moves around on casters, has a multi-touch screen and an articulating arm that provides ample range of motion, and it fulfills my childhood dreams of owning a robot. That is, if I could ever own it.

The Arcade Dock
This mini arcade designed by Dean Liou brings back the fun of being at the arcade without the wait.  Liou used a Lenovo Ideapad Y560 to power this throwback. The best part of his creation: You can remove the laptop to dock at your office to do "real" work.
