Maplewood Library Celebrates Summer Art Exhibits
The Maplewood Library is a great place to see the work of local artists and hear the talent of local musicians.
Maplewood Library hosts local artists.
A reception with live music will be held on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 pm to celebrate our summer exhibits.
Maplewood sculptor B. John Kaufman says of his work: “I put things together. Different things from different realms of endeavor. Construction materials, car parts, detritus from anywhere. Seems to me I can maximize the sculptural potential of any group of objects, by reading them...I ‘make’ the pieces work together.” B. John was recently elected Commander of VFW Post 10120, is on the Board of 1978 and has been Public Defender in Maplewood for the past 20 years. He was the mastermind behind the wildly popular 4th of July Hoops Project. Mr. Kaufman’s fascinating creations can be viewed in the display case in the adult area of the Main Library.

Also showing are the photographs of Maplewoodian Joy Yagid. Joy is well-known for her fine art photography. She says: “I love taking photographs. I love trying to capture a common object in a different way. My love is to shoot nature in a non-obvious way. I love finding the abstract. I love color and patterns and the play of light.”That love is obvious in her work. Her themes include Nature, Decay, Events and People. She is also an events photographer who enjoys capturing the memories and fun of a gathering..
Music will be provided by CHS student Rueben Morris, who has been playing the harp for 7 years. He will play classical, Celtic, modern and Latin music, and the artists will each give a short talk about their work.
