Your Employment Matters: The Fairy Tale is Over, but….
The Fairy Tale is Over (Part I): We Can Survive the Seismic Shift in the Employment Landscape

Once upon a time
- Employees who worked for the same employer for many, many years were respected, highly regarded and enjoyed job security.
- Long years of service were recognized and rewarded with a gold watch or its equivalent.
- In many instances it was considered disloyal to even think about looking for a job with another employer, especially a competitor.
- Years of service, satisfactory performance and loyalty, employees also were often promoted and received annual salary increases.
- Job security and the peace of mind it brings were additional rewards.
- Not only did employees remain on the same job until retirement, they recruited their family members and friends to work
for the company. - Thus, working for the same employer until retirement became a family tradition.

Is this a case of history repeating itself? Is the effect that technological changes have had on almost every facet of our lives similar to changes caused by the Industrial Revolution as our country transitioned from an agrarian to an industrial society? I think so. What do you think?
