THE MAPLEWOOD GARDEN CLUB PRESENTS DAVID CULP, THE  EXPERT ON HELLEBORES

Just when you thought winter might never end, David Culp, of Brandywine Cottage, will share his knowledge and appreciation of Hellebores, flowering perennials that are the first harbingers of spring. “The ultimate shade plant”, also known as Lenten Rose, hellebores bloom in late winter and early spring with striking flower colors and designs ranging from white to almost black, and they have practically evergreen foliage too! Mr. Culp has been collecting and breeding these wonderful plants for many decades and features them in his own Pennsylvania garden, which is a frequent stop on some of the most prestigious garden tours. He also teaches at Longwood Gardens, lectures nationwide, writes for national gardening magazines, and has appeared on HGTV and Martha Stewart Living. Come find out more about these interesting and beautiful plants that can add flowers to your garden even in the coldest months. Maplewood Garden Club meeting, Monday, March 7, 2011, 7:30 PM at the Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker St., Maplewood, NJ. The meeting is open to all, admission is free and refreshments (often home made!) will be served.
