The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School is offering a unique wine tasting class on Tuesday, March 29th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Highland Place (5 Highland Place, Maplewood). The fee is $61; participants can register online at www.somadultschool.org or by phone at (973-378-7620).
Austria and Hungary share many things, including Habsburg emperors, the Danube River and a great wine tradition. In this tasting class, learn about fragrant Rieslings and crisp Gruner Veltliners from northeastern Austria as well as red wines like Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt from Burgenland.
From Hungary we’ll try the white wine Furmint, which offers ripe peaches on the nose and palate, as well as the legendary sweet wine from Tokaj. We may even be able to secure a bottle of the famous Bull’s Blood, a rich, blended wine whose name originated with the 16th century invasion of Eger by Suleiman the Magnificent and his Turkish forces.
