Gospel Tops The Brunch Menu

HighlandPlace welcomed back Yvette Glover, Jackie Jones and the Nat Adderley Jr. Trio

Church was in session on Sunday, September 12, at HighlandPlace, as well as fine food and drink, as Yvette Glover, Jackie Jones and the Nat Adderley Jr. Trio reconvened for their second Jazz-Gospel Brunch.

Coming off their initial performance on August 1, the Nat Adderley Jr. Trio (including pianist Nat Adderley Jr. and bassist Greg Jones) welcomed drummer and Maplewood resident Victor Jones. Jones has performed with such artists as Chaka Khan and Stanley Clark and was a strong and charismatic addition to the trio.

Vocalist Yvette Glover shone on Gospel standards such as His Eye Is On The Sparrow and Blessed Assurance. Summit, NJ resident Jackie Jones wowed the crowd with her rendition of He Looked Beyond My Faults, which was arranged to the melody of the classic tune of Danny Boy (or Londonderry Air).

Glover and Jones gave the show an intimate presence frequently bantering with and cajoling the band and audience members.

Enjoy the video of some wonderful performances.
