In Maplewood: Two Days, Two School Gun Scares

Police take Columbia High student into custody after he brings gun and knife to school.

Maplewood saw its second school gun scare in two days on Thursday, when police apprehended a 15-year-old male student who had brought a gun and knife onto the grounds of Columbia High School.

According to police, around 2:48 p.m., officers responded to the school on a report of a student armed with a handgun.

On arrival, police placed the school in a “shelter in place status” until they determined it was safe.

Officers then found the teen in possession of an air soft gun and a “kitchen-style knife” and took him into custody.

According to police:

“At this time, there is no indication there is a threat to students attending the school or school staff. Charges are pending investigation and no further details are available at this time. As a precautionary measure, additional patrols will be assigned to the area of the school.”

The arrest is the second gun scare in two days at a Maplewood school.
