Maplewood Voter Guide 2021: Who's Running, When To Vote

The general election is on Nov. 2, but you can vote earlier by mail. Check out our voter guide before you cast your ballot.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The general election is only a few weeks away, and Essex County residents will be able to cast their votes on both state and local races.

This year, there are three ways to vote, and a number of decisions to make, including an election for governor.

Governor's Race: Gov. Murphy is running for reelection this year against Republican Jack Ciattarelli, Madelyn Hoffman (Green Party), Gregg Mele (Libertarian) and Joanne Kuniansky (Socialist Workers Party).

NJ State Legislature: Maplewood is part of New Jersey's 27th state legislative district. Primary election candidates in the 27th district include: SENATE (one seat) Richard Codey (incumbent, Democratic Party) Adam Kraemer (Republican Party) ASSEMBLY (two seats) Mila Jasey (incumbent, Democratic Party) John McKeon (incumbent, Democratic Party) Kevin Ryan (Republican Party) Jonathan Sym (Republican Party)

Maplewood Township Committee: In Maplewood's form of government, candidates run for Township Committee and are elected by the public. Then, the committee members choose a mayor and deputy mayor each year from among themselves. Committee members serve staggered
three-year terms. This year, two Democratic candidates are running for two open spots on the Township Committee. No Republicans filed to run against them in the primary in June. The two candidates are:

Where And How To Vote

Essex County has released a user-friendly guide to voting in this year's election, including voting early and voting by mail. Read more here.

In-person early voting:

Early voting locations will be open from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Find out more here.

In-person on election day:

Voting will be available at regular polling locations in 2021. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to
8 p.m. Specific polling locations will be listed on sample ballots, but can also be found here.

Mail-in ballot and drop boxes:

Applications for vote-by-mail must be received by mail by Oct. 26. You can fill out a form online. Find out more here.

If you don't want to mail it in by Election Day, there are a number of ballot drop boxes across the county, including at the police and court building on Springfield Avenue. Get the list here.
