Montclair State University will host the inaugural meeting of the Genocide Education & Prevention Project (GEAPP) from July 24-26, 2017. A human rights collaboration between Montclair State University and George Mason University, GEAPP's mission is to identify innovative practices and methodologies that focus on genocide education, genocide prevention, and links between the two. The conference is open to the public and especially NJ teachers, given the state mandate to integrate genocide and holocaust education into K-12 curriculum.
A range of scholars and lawyers will present research on human rights and genocide for discussion, creating an opportunity to bring together higher education humanities, law, and secondary education professionals, students and the general public. The keynote speaker on 7/24 (9:00 a.m.) is Joyce A. Apsel, Ph.D. and J.D., a professor at New York University and past president of the International Association of Genocide Scholars.
This event is supported by the Montclair State University (MSU) Department of Religion, MSU Residence Life, MSU Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education Project and the NJ Commission on Holocaust Education.
