Three Cars Stolen Within 8 Days In Maplewood: Police

There were three car thefts in Maplewood in a two-week period, police said, reminding residents to lock their homes and cars.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood police released details of reports from the first two weeks of this month. Among them, there were three car thefts.

The details:

A resident of Claremont Avenue had his vehicle stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours of Oct. 6, police said. The owner told him he had the keys and had locked the doors, but "was unable to provide proof to officers on scene of having possession of keys."

The vehicle was recovered in Newark several days later, police said.

The next day, a vehicle left unlocked with the key in it was stolen from the driveway of Field Road during the overnight hours, police said.

That vehicle, too, was recovered in Newark a few days later.

And police said that on Friday, Oct. 14, a Crestwood Drive resident had their vehicle stolen while unloading items from it. It was unlocked and running.

"The Maplewood Police Department works hard to protect the residents and their property," police said. "We are asking that you assist us in this effort by making sure all vehicles and
homes are properly secured at all times."
