Struggles Leading To Home Fire In Maplewood Are Covered By NY Times
A fire and stabbing in a Maplewood home last year occurred after a series of difficult battles for the former homeowner, the NY Times said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Emergency workers responding to a house on fire in Maplewood last December found the woman who'd grown up the home suffering inside from four stab wounds.
In Thursday's New York Times, a reporter tells the story of how the homeowner, 60, a lifelong resident and a Holocaust educator, had lost the home after a series of legal and health battles. She managed to get back inside that day before being found later and taken to a hospital.
The Times details a foreclosure, family feud, and other issues that occurred before the incidents of Dec. 7, 2022, and says the homeowner is now on home detention at a friend's apartment in South Orange. Many readers in the comments section responded by criticizing state laws that allowed her to lose her home. The story notes that the homeowner etched a message in the concrete outside, "EVE M LIVED HERE 1962-2022." Read the NY Times coverage here.
