Car Went Off The Road, Struck A Tree In Fatal Crash, Marlboro Police Say

The crash occurred early Sunday over the Fourth of July weekend, police said.

MARLBORO, NJ — The vehicle involved in a fatal crash over the Fourth of July weekend went off the road and struck a tree, Marlboro Police said.

On Sunday, July 5, at 12:45 am, the Marlboro Township Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash on Route 18 southbound in the area of State Highway 79.

Once police arrived at the scene, officers found a black 2018 Acura MDX that had left the roadway and struck a tree.

The vehicle’s sole occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Confirmation of the driver's identity is pending results from the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Agencies responding to the crash included the Marlboro Township Police Department, Marlboro First Aid Squad, Marlboro Fire Department, East Freehold Fire Company, the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office, and Atlantic Health paramedics.

Traffic assistance was provided by the Colts Neck Police Department and Old Bridge Police Department.

Route 18 Southbound was closed from the time of the crash until about 5:30 a.m.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Marlboro Township Police Traffic and Safety Bureau.
