Car Traveling North on Rt. 9 South on Marlboro/Manalapan Border Causes Accident
A three-vehicle car accident was caused by a Manalapan man driving north in the southbound lanes of Rt. 9 early Tuesday morning, police said

MARLBORO TOWNSHIP, NJ - A three-vehicle car accident was caused by a Manalapan man driving north in the southbound lanes of Rt. 9 early Tuesday morning on the Marlboro/Manalapan border, Capt. Fred Reck of the Marlboro police said. The Manalapan man slammed into a southbound vehicle near the Union Hill Road overpass just after midnight and had to be extricated from the car, police said.
Marlboro Township Police responded to Rt. 9 South at Union Hill Road at 12:32 a.m. Tuesday: The 23-year-old Manalapan man was driving a silver 2005 Toyota Highlander north in the southbound lanes of Rt. 9 when he drove into a 2016 black Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 28-year-old Freehold man. The Jetta was headed south.
The force of the collision caused debris to be thrown into the northbound lanes of Rt. 9, striking a gray 2010 Hyundai Genesis; however, nobody in that car was injured, police said.

The Manalapan man had to be extricated from the vehicle due to the severity of damage to his car, and was transported to Centra State Medical Center by Marlboro First Aid Squad with non-life threatening injuries. A female front passenger who was with him was transported to Robert Wood Johnson by Morganville First Aid Squad, also with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta was transported to Jersey Shore University by Marlboro First Aid Squad with non-life threatening injuries.

US Highway 9 south was closed to traffic at the Union Hill Road overpass from 12:32 a.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday while the accident was being investigated. The cause of the accident is under investigation at this time. Charges are pending at this time until completion of the accident investigation, Capt. Reck said.
