Collier High School Hosts their Fourth Annual Senior Citizens Day
Senior Citizens are treated to lunch and a show at Collier High School

Collier High School, a program of Collier Youth Services, a non-profit organization that empowers at-risk youth to grow toward their potential in an environment of belonging, dignity, and hope, is proud to announce that they successfully held their Fourth Annual Senior Citizens Day at Collier High School on May 17, 2017.
Opened in 1977, Collier High School is a state-approved, non-profit school for students with disabilities whose needs cannot be met within the public school. The school’s departmentalized academic program prepares students for admission into four- and two-year colleges, technical/vocational schools, and full-time employment. Collier’s strong counseling component combines individual as well as group therapy that encourages and supports social and emotional growth for all students. Students come to Collier High School from over 55 school districts throughout the state of New Jersey.
The Collier High School’s Service Learning Committee supervised by educator Bev Mercer, invited various senior centers that they volunteer at including Howell Senior Center, Monroe Village, and the Chelsea Senior Center in Tinton Falls to a performance of Collier High School’s spring musical, South Pacific. Afterwards, a special lunch prepared by Collier High School and Middle School’s Food Services classes was served to our guests by the Service Learning Committee. “Events like this are so important for our students. They learn how to interact with others who are not their peers, be good hosts, and gain experience in waiting tables. The seniors love the attention they get from the students, the food, and the day out. It’s a win-win overall,” stated Bev.
