Some Colts Neck residents oppose the proposed soccer complex, which would be build on land that borders their backyards, reports say.

A proposal to build an outdoor soccer complex in Holmdel is causing some controversy, according to published reports.

The proposal to build sports fields, a building and a parking lot on a 92-acre tract of land near County Route 520, State Route 34 and South Holmdel Road in Holmdel, according to The Two River Times.

The applicant is requesting several variances, including those for an illuminated sign and lights, from the Holmdel Planning Board, according to The News Transcript.

But some Colts Neck residents oppose the proposal, which would be built on land that borders their backyards, according to The Two River Times. Those residents said they did not know Holmdel officials last year approved a sports complex use for land in the Rural Conservation Zone, the report said.
