We checked in on the owner, David Barclay, who is working overtime this year to make this season a good one for the farm.

“2011 was the worst year for us in 30 years. Irene dropped almost 10 inches of rain on delicate crops, and it rained another 18 inches until mid-October. That's a total of about 28 inches of rain in 9 weeks,” Barclay said. “Now, our average rainfall is about 45 inches per year, so we had over 60 percent of our annual expected rainfall in that short period. Everything was soaked and ruined. 2011 was a year to write off and forget.”

We’re sure you’ll want to head on over to Eastmont Orchards, so check out the website and click on the pumpkin and apple icons to find out what’s available for picking. There’s a lot of other interesting information, as well, including delicious recipes, the best use for the different varieties of apples found at the farm, and storing and freezing instructions.

Make sure to call just before visiting Eastmont, as each morning the recording is updated to reflect any special circumstances at the farm, such as product availability and rain-outs.
