Elizabeth Man Killed In Monroe Hit And Run Thursday

An Elizabeth man was hit and killed while on his way to work Thursday morning in Monroe Twp. The vehicle that hit him fled, police said.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 44-year-old Elizabeth man was hit and killed while on his way to work Thursday morning in Monroe Township. The vehicle that hit him fled the scene, police said.

The fatal hit and run occurred on Applegarth Road early this morning, the Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Monroe Police Chief Michael Lloyd announced.

The man is Jose Cedillo, 44, of Elizabeth. Police said that Cedillo was driving his 2017 Nissan Titan pick-up truck on his way to work at Cooper Electric in Monroe. Sometime before 5 a.m. today, he stopped the truck at the corner of Applegarth Road and Forsgate Drive and got out.

He was found by police lying next to his vehicle.

Cedillo was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was struck by another car and killed at the intersection at approximately 4:50 a.m. His body will now undergo an autopsy from the Medical Examiner’s Office. Police were alerted to the crash when a 911 call was received from a passerby who saw the victim lying next to his vehicle.

The crash is being investigation by Sgt. Keith Saloom of the Monroe Police Department and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
