Garden Club R.F.D. of Middletown To Honor Martha Marcickiewicz & Lydia Wikoff with the Perennial Bloom Award

The Perennial Bloom Award is an award established by the Central Atlantic Region of the National Garden Club in 2011.  It is one that honors long-time members for their years of dedicated support and service to the garden club of which they are a member.

Many of our best-loved flowers are perennials that spring up year after year, making an outstanding contribution to the beauty of our gardens.  The Garden Club R.F.D. has been privileged to have longtime members who, like the faithful perennials in our gardens, have made our Club grow and bloom with their continuous support of our goals and objectives.

Their love of gardening has planted many a seed for garden club programs and events while their contagious, enthusiastic leadership has inspired members to nurture these seeds into successful bloom.

In grateful appreciation for their years of support, the Perennial Bloom Award will be presented to Martha Marcickiewicz of Red Bank and to Lydia Wikoff of Freehold.

Martha has been a member for the past 35 years and Lydia for the past 39 years.  Martha is a young 90 years of age and Lydia is a young 92 years of age.  They both regularly attend the monthly meetings of the Club and still participate in events.

Martha was the Club’s corresponding secretary and librarian for over a decade while Lydia currently serves as the historian for Garden Club R.F.D.  As  gardeners, Martha has been especially focused on roses while Lydia’s specialty  has been  herbs and vegetables.  They are reliable experts in their chosen field.

The Garden Club R.F.D. will honor these two delightful women at the May 20 meeting of the Club at The Little Red Schoolhouse on Middletown Lincroft Road in Middletown.  At the same meeting we will also learn more about Container Gardening as presented by Sandy Wolfe, a Master Gardener and President of Rutgers Master Gardeners of Monmouth County.  Katie O’Brien will also speak about “How the Ferns of Today Evolved”.

If you’d like to learn more about our garden club or possibly attend this meeting, please call June Smith at 732-671-9216 for further information.  As you should be able to tell by this article, gardening helps you live longer, remain healthier and have a clear mind.   Join us.
