Judge: Colts Neck Must Release Records To Newspaper
Colts Neck will have to release records to the Asbury Park Press

A judge has ruled that Colts Neck officials must turn records over to the Asbury Park Press, the newspaper reported. This follows a lawsuit filed by the township seeking to have records regarding Police Chief Kevin Sauter’s suspension.
Township officials argued that as a personnel matter, the files should be kept confidential. The Asbury Park Press had filed a request for the records under the Open Public Records Act.
Chief Sauter was suspended after it was found he attended an out of state conference without alerting the township or using personal days. He also had an on-duty police officer pick him and his family up at the airport when they returned home.
