Marlboro Named Among Safest Towns In U.S., New Report Says

MARLBORO, NJ - Residents of Marlboro Township can rest assured that their streets are one of the safest in the country, according to a new report. The Monmouth County municipality was just named as one of the top 25 Safest Small Cities and Towns in America by MoneyGeek.

MoneyGeek released their 2021 list Tuesday. Marlboro ranked at No. 6 in the U.S. behind the likes of Franklin, MA, Shrewsbury, MA and Carmel, NY.

Marlboro was also named as the safest town in New Jersey. Middletown, located just 12 miles away, ranked at No. 17.

According to the report, Marlboro saw a 22.6 violent crime rate and a 685.1 property crime rate per 100,000 people. MoneyGeek used the FBI's yearly Uniform Crime Report to calculate crimes, which includes murder, rape and aggravated assault as well as burglaries and car theft.

The report also calculated average crime costs (such as loss of property, services for victims and policing and corrections). Marlboro ranked at No. 6 with $61 crime cost per capita.

The report surveyed small cities and towns, defined as locations with populations between 30,000 and 100,000 residents.

Other New Jersey towns that made the ranking include Bridgewater, Fair Lawn and Monroe. Camden topped the list of most dangerous cities in 2021.

Most of their safest small cities and towns in America are in the Northeast, with the top two in Massachusetts and six of the top ten in New York or New Jersey.
