Morganville EMTs Now Equipped with Pet Oxygen Masks

Pet parents offered free "pets inside" decals to alert first responders to pets in the home

Morganville First Aid & Rescue Squad recently received a donation of two sets of specially designed oxygen masks for pets from at-home pet services provider Canine Company.

The masks were requested by Trustee Bruce Bandler after he learned about the company's charitable program to donate masks. They have been deployed by the Squad’s line officers so first responders will be able to use them to resuscitate family pets on scene in an emergency.

Pets are at special risk during a home fire because they are unable to leave the house without help. An estimated 40,000 pets die from smoke inhalation across the U.S. each year. The cone-shaped masks are designed specifically for a pet's snout, which human masks don't fit. Each set includes masks in three sizes to accommodate pets from small mammals to giant breed dogs.

"As first responders we care deeply about the welfare of our human patients as well as their pets and are thrilled to be able to offer these masks to our community" said Bruce Bandler of Morganville First Aid.

To make sure that first responders know there are pets in a home, Canine Company has also provided free "Pets Inside" decals to local pet parents. The stickers are available from the First Aid Squad and can be requested by sending an eMail request to pets@mfars.org.
