New Villas a Possibility for Trump National Golf Club

The Trump National Golf Club is asking for a study group from the Township to determine whether or not new golf villas are feasible.

New golf villas could be in the future for the Trump National Golf Club, a presentation given at the Colts Neck Township Committee's Wednesday meeting revealed. However, there's still a lot of planning that needs to be done.

Ed Russo, a Trump National Golf Club project manager, came before the Colts Neck Township Committee on Wednesday evening to talk about the potential of adding new golf villas to their Colts Neck location (off of Route 34). Russo said the club wants to go forward with their proposal "only if there are significant benefits with no negative impacts."

The golf villas would be a type of vacation house. Since no official plans had been made, however, it was unknown what amenities they would have.

Russo requested a study group, made up of government members and local professionals, that would determine whether or not the villas would be beneficial to the town. Potential benefits, he said, could include a boost to the economy in terms of jobs, while disadvantages could include increased traffic and environmental concerns.

"This has to be something that we have to work together to make it work," Russo said.

Colts Neck Mayor Jarrett R. Engel responded by saying "My gut tells me that we already have a committee for this," and referred to the planning board. However, Engle also mentioned that a previous subcommittee has been formed years earlier to determine the number of yearly functions the golf club was allowed to hold, and what their effect would be on the town.

The Trump National Golf Club in Colts Neck is one of several golf clubs nationwide that is owned by New York real estate mogul Donald Trump. It is one of two New Jersey locations, the other one being in Bedminster.
