Old Brick Church, Exterior Restoration, February 2023

Old Brick Reformed Church in Marlboro is undergoing an exterior restoration. Founded in 1699, the present sanctuary was built in 1826. While the building is only 197 years old, the congregation was established 324 years ago, making this one of the oldest protestant churches in America. Old Brick Church was the parent church of other Reformed Churches in the area, including the Reformed Churches of Freehold and Colts Neck.

Old Brick church was featured in “A Weekend in Old Monmouth” in April 2022, the Monmouth County Historical Commission semi-annual tour of historic structures in Monmouth County.

The interior of Old Brick Church was lovingly restored in 1996, painting and polishing the historic sanctuary, which features magnificent stained glass windows, ornate painted tin ceiling, columned balcony and individual box pews characteristic of colonial churches of that period. The church also added a new 200 rank pipe organ at that time.

The brick exterior and stained glass windows have been well maintained, but the original cedar and slate roof and the classic colonial steeple had weathered over the last two centuries, and are now being restored to their original glory. The exterior restoration will be complete in Spring 2023.

Old Brick Church is located at 490 Rt. 520, Marlboro. The Sanctuary is open for services during the exterior restoration. Services are Sunday at 9:30 AM. All are welcome. Please join us!
