Preserve Family Photos and Study Family History at Library
The Monmouth County Library Archive staff will be teaching the public how to preserve their family photographs and documents, as well as how to use the library archives to research their family tree.

The Monmouth County Library will be marking Preservation Week this April with a free program and lecture on preserving family photographs on Thursday, April 26 at at 125 Symmes Rd. in Manalapan.
The American Library Association's annual Preservation Week is held from April 22 through April 28, and is sponsored by the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services. The purpose of this annual week is to raise awareness about the role libraries and other cultural institutions can pay in providing ongoing preservation information.
Monmouth County Archivist Gary Saretzky will be leading a class entitled, "Preserving Family Photographs" at 10 a.m. on April 26; advanced registration is not required. Participants in the class will be able to have up to three personal documents or photographs professionally digitized and saved to a CD to bring home for free.

“We want to reach out to the community to let them know about the preservation work conducted by the library and the archives,” Saretzky said.
The public is also invited to visit the archives at Monmouth County Library Headquarters from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., located in the lower level of the library.

Want to search through the arhives to research your family history? The library Archives staff will be available to teach people how to search through the archives and answer any questions you may have about how to use the archives to find what you're looking for.
“Family history in written documents and photos should last a more than a lifetime and be passed on to future generations,” Freeholder Lillian G. Burry said. “Here’s a chance for residents to learn the how-to of keeping family photos intact and ready for viewing decades from now. The Monmouth County Archives does a great job preserving county history and can help residents preserve their family history as well.”
