School Bus Accident in Marlboro Wednesday Morning

5 students headed to Biotechnology High School were aboard; 2 were injured, as was the driver.

Marlboro Township, NJ - A school bus headed to Biotechnology High School in Freehold got into an accident early Wednesday morning in Marlboro Township, police there said, and two of the students and the bus driver were injured.

The accident occurred at 6:59 a.m. on Tharp Lane. At the time of the accident, the school bus was occupied by five students from Biotechnology High School and the bus driver, Soris Pena of Perth Amboy. The bus somehow hit a concrete mailbox on Tharp Lane, Capt. Fred Reck said. No other cars were involved.

The driver was transported to Centra State Medical Center in Freehold with non-life threatening injuries by the Marlboro First Aid Squad. Two of the students suffered minor injuries and were released at the scene to their parents.

The bus was owned and operated by Durham School Services.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. No motor vehicle summonses have been issued at this time pending the results of the accident investigation. Cpl. Brandon Stacey of the Marlboro Township Police Traffic and Safety Bureau is investigating the accident.
