WATCH: School Bus Catches Fire After Crash In Colts Neck: Officials

Breaking: There were no children on the bus, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's office said; reports said both drivers were injured.

COLTS NECK, NJ — A school bus burst into flames Tuesday afternoon after a collision with another vehicle on Phalanx Road in Colts Neck, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. and involved the bus and another vehicle, the prosecutor's office said.

"Both vehicles had single occupants and no children were on the bus at the time of the collision," the prosecutor's office said.

Reports said both the bus driver and the driver of the other vehicle, described by some news outlets as an SUV, were taken to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries was not known.

The collision occurred on Phalanx Road at the border of Colts Neck and Middletown Township, Jersey Shore Hurricane News reported. One of the drivers was taken to a hospital, that report said.

Phalanx Road was closed between Woodhollow Road and Brookdale Community College in the Lincroft section of Middletown, Colts Neck police said. There was no estimate on when the road might reopen.
