Vote for Marlboro Girl's Doodle to Go Up on Google

A student at Biotechnology High School, Lauren Alexx's love of bugs inspired her to recreate Google's logo, she says.

Marlboro, NJ - A 9th grader from Marlboro Township, Lauren Alexx, had her drawing selected by Google to possibly be featured on the Google.com homepage.

Now you just have to cast your vote to help her win.

Alexx’s drawing was chosen as one of 53 contenders for the homepage out of 100,000 submissions received by Google. The eighth annual Doodle 4 Google competition asked K-12 students across the U.S. to redesign the Google logo answering the question, “What makes me ... me.”

Alexx’s drawing, “The World in a Jar,” was inspired by her love of bugs, she says.

“Animals and plants have always fascinated me. Ever since I was a child I’ve collected bugs and plants (mostly weeds that I thought looked nice!), Googling how to care for them. If anyone ever finds a jar with a bug in it around the house, they instantly know it’s me,” said Alexx, in a press release.

Vote for Lauren!

Voting begins Friday, February 5 and goes through February 22; you can vote here.

The public chooses five national finalists (one in each grade group), and then Google will announce the five finalists and one of them as the national winner on March 21 — the same day the winner’s doodle will go live on Google.com.

The national winner will take home a $30,000 college scholarship and his or her school will receive a $50,000 Google for Education grant, which goes towards the establishment and improvement of a computer lab or technology program.

Alexx is a student at Biotechnology High School in Freehold.
