Another Old Bridge Fatal Hit And Run On Rt. 9

For the second time in less than a month, someone walking on Rt. 9 in Old Bridge was hit and killed. This happened Tuesday morning.

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — For the second time in less than a month, someone walking on Rt. 9 in Old Bridge was hit and killed by cars, said police in that town.

The body of a middle-aged man was found at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday after a driver saw the body lying in the grass median of Rt. 9 between Ferry and Spring Valley roads and called 911.

When police got there, they found the man deceased. He appears to be the victim of a hit-and-run car accident, said acting Old Bridge Police Chief Joe Mandola.

About two weeks ago, on Jan. 27 an Old Bridge man was hit and killed while walking on Rt. 9 after midnight. He was also hit by a car on that same stretch of Rt. 9, near Ferry Road.

That man was identified as Harvey Berse, 69, an Old Bridge resident. Police say he had been struck by multiple cars.

The man hit and killed Tuesday morning has not been identified yet by Old Bridge Police.

Rt. 9 north and southbound, a major commuting artery, was closed for several hours Tuesday morning, with traffic being diverted to Rt. 18.
