Parents of Special People Annual Speaker Series

Special Needs Workshop for families and professionals at Cambridge Park School, BOE Conference Room, One Crest Way in Aberdeen. Free (registration required).

POAC presents Using the ABLLS in Your Autism Program at School or at Home: The ABLLS (Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills) is a criterion referenced assessment that can also be used as a curriculum guide and tracking system. It is particularly useful for those with diagnosis on the autism spectrum as it places a heavy emphasis on language development skills. Specifically, this tool identifies language skills and other functional skills that other tests do not assess. It clearly identifies skill deficits and displays levels of performance making it an excellent IEP development guide. The following will be addressed: conducting the assessment, scoring and interpreting a completed ABLLS and making program decisions. This workshop is appropriate for teachers who are new to this tool or new to a program that is using it, and for parents who would like to do more to support their children’s education. Register at www.poac.net.
