Temple Shalom will present a screening and discussion of the HBO documentary Mann vs. Ford. This film tells the story of the Ramapough Mountain Indians of northern New Jersey and their epic battle against the Ford Motor Company and the Environmental Protection agency to ensure that Ford cleared the land of toxic waste that the company acknowledged dumping.
Mahwah’s Ford plant dumped millions of gallons of toxic waste - much of which can still be seen today - into Ringwood and the surrounding areas. In 2005 the Ramapough people filed a class-action lawsuit against Ford in 2005 in an attempt to “secure a healthy future for their children.”
Bob Spiegel, executive director of the Edison Wetlands Association, will lead the discussion.
