Man, 22, Killed While Crossing Parkway In Sayreville: State Police

A 22-year-old Neptune Twp. man was fatally hit by a car Tuesday night attempting to cross the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville.

SAYREVILLE, NJ — A 22-year-old Neptune Township man was killed Tuesday night while he was attempting to cross the Garden State Parkway. This happened on the Parkway south at MP 123.8 in Sayreville.

Jahmeir Mendez, 22, of Neptune, was identified by State Police as the man who died.

According to State Police, Mendez was attempting to walk across the Parkway south express lanes in that area at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, when he was struck by a Subaru Outback traveling southbound in the center lane.

Mendez sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Subaru remained at the scene and no charges have been filed.

The Parkway south in that area was closed for three hours Tuesday night, and State Police say there was minimal congestion due to the time of night. The crash remains under investigation.
