Man Charged in 2nd Holmdel Burglary

A Cliffwood man who targeted Holmdel homes was charged this week. He drove off in a white Mercedes in both burglaries, police say.

Holmdel, NJ - A Cliffwood man with a history of breaking into Holmdel homes, and who was caught in part because he often drove off in a signature white Mercedes, was hit with a new charge this week for allegedly burglarizing a home on Twin Brooks Court, police say.

Dwayne Melvin, 43, was charged this week with breaking into a home on Twin Brooks Court on Oct. 19, 2015. He broke into the home sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. that day, and took jewelry and more than $1,000, the Monmouth County prosecutor charges.

Witnesses at the time said they saw a black man drive off in a white sedan, possibly a Mercedes, police said. Later, on Nov. 6, a resident on Fox Hunt Road called Holmdel police to report a “suspicious” white Mercedes seen driving in the area at about 4 p.m.

The Mercedes had all of its windows tinted and was driving very slowly in the neighborhood, the resident said. A home was broken into that same day on Fox Hunt Road, and a 9 MM Glock pistol, two Apple iPads, an engagement ring and a fire-proof safe were taken.

Officers responded and located the Mercedes, driven by Justin Brown of Newark, who was charged as an accomplice in the Fox Hunt Road burglary. Police searched the car and inside, found several items from a separate burglary recently committed in Tinton Falls, they said.

But Melvin was nowhere to be found, and remained on the loose. Holmdel Police issued warrants for his arrest.

Melvin was arrested on Nov. 18 in Woodbridge and charged with the Nov. 6 Fox Hunt Road burglary. This week, he was charged with the Twin Brooks Court burglary as well. His bail was set at $50,000.
