Man Arrested for Burglary on Fox Hunt Road Stole Gun, Engagement Ring

Holmdel Police arrested a man Monday they’ve been looking for since Nov. 6, the day he and another accomplice allegedly broke into a home on Fox Hunt Road in Holmdel and made off with a 9 MM pistol and an engagement ring.

Just before 6 p.m. Monday, Holmdel Police arrested Dwayne Melvin in Woodbridge.

Township police have been looking for Melvin, 43, of Cliffwood Beach, since Nov. 6 and actively asked the public’s help in finding him.

That day, police allege, Melvin and an accomplice, Justin Brown of Newark, broke into a home on Fox Hunt Road. They stole a 9 MM Glock pistol, two Apple iPads, an engagement ring and a fire-proof safe, police say.

A resident called the Holmdel Police Department at 4 p.m. on Nov. 6 to report a “suspicious” white Mercedes seen driving in the area near Fox Hunt Road. The Mercedes had all of its windows tinted and was driving very slowly in the neighborhood.

Officers responded and located the Mercedes, driven by Brown. Police searched the car and inside, found several items from a separate burglary recently committed in Tinton Falls, police said.

Brown, a Newark resident, was immediately arrested and charged with burglary.

But Melvin was nowhere to be found, and remained on the loose. Holmdel Police issued warrants for his arrest.

He was brought in Monday in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Woodbridge Police Department.

Melvin was transported to the Holmdel Police Department where he was processed and transferred to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute in lieu of bail payment which was set at $40,000.
