Road Rage In Sayreville: Man Fired Gun Into Air On Parkway

State Police say a man pulled up alongside another driver on the Parkway south in Sayreville Aug. 24 and fired two rounds into the air.

SAYREVILLE, NJ — New Jersey State Police say a man pulled up alongside another driver on the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville and fired two rounds into the air.

The two men did not know each other and he fired the gun in a road rage incident, said State Police. Nobody was hit by the gunfire.

This happened at 10:47 a.m. on August 24, said police: The victim called 911 to report that another driver pulled up next to him on as he was driving on the Parkway South in Sayreville, brandished a gun, and fired two rounds into the air.

The 911 caller was able to provide a description of the vehicle, which was a black Honda Civic with Pennsylvania license plates.

Troopers from Holmdel Station were then dispatched to look for an erratic driver coming down the Parkway southbound through their area.

Within minutes, troopers located and stopped the Honda Civic in the area of milepost 89.2, which is Lakewood in Ocean County, said State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez.

The driver, Wellingthon Ayala-Peralta, 36, of Philadelphia was found to be in possession of stolen a 9mm caliber handgun and a high-capacity magazine.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, possession of a high-capacity magazine, receiving stolen property and DWI. He was lodged at the Middlesex County jail pending a detention hearing.
