Man Jumps From Driscoll Bridge Tuesday Morning

A man jumped from the Driscoll Bridge Tuesday morning, but survived the 135-foot​ drop and is currently hospitalized.

SAYREVILLE, NJ — A man jumped from the Driscoll Bridge Tuesday morning, but survived the 135-foot drop and is currently hospitalized.

The man jumped at around 8 a.m. Tuesday. Police responded; he was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick and was last listed in serious condition, said Sgt. Lawrence Peele of the New Jersey State Police.

The Driscoll Bridge spans the mouth of the Raritan River, connecting Woodbridge Township with South Amboy; it carries the 15-lane Garden State Parkway.

Tragically, the 135-foot-high Driscoll Bridge has seen a number of suicides. In 2016, as Patch reported, a man and a woman jumped to their deaths off the bridge in two separate incidents.
