Matawan Regional Loses Home Opener on Late Field Goal

The Huskies scored on their first possession of the game in what turned out to be a defensive battle. In the 2nd quarter, the Bucs tied the game at 7 on a fumble recovery by Thyeem Crawford in Matawan's end zone.
In the Third Quarter, Matawan retook the lead 9-7 on a safety when Red Bank botched their snap and were downed in the end zone.

Red Bank's offense finally got untracked in the last possession of the game. Quaterback Terrence Scanlon made a key completion on 4th down then ran for another big gain to get to the Matawan 22. The Bucs had gone for it on every other 4th down in the game, but this time kicker Mike Malley was given a chance to win the game. He split the uprights with 15.4 seconds left, giving the Bucs their first lead of the game. Matawan was unable to make a play on their last possesion, giving Red Bank a huge 10-9 victory.
