Oceanic Bridge In Monmouth County Closed For Weeks

The Oceanic Bridge, which connects Middletown and Rumson, will be closed for the next few weeks so repairs can be made.

The closure, to both vehicles and pedestrian traffic began Tuesday and is expected to continue until June 12, according to a press release from Middletown Deputy Police Chief Stephen Dollinger.

Earlier this year, officials said workers had been fixing the steel structure and concrete deck of the bridge when they discovered deterioration in two areas that had not previously been accessible.

In April, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders authorized $653,650 for repairs.

The 2,712-foot drawbridge, which spans the Navesink River, was built in 1939. It has been classified as structurally deficient, and the county plans to replace it in the next decade.
