OLD BRIDGE, NJ — The Old Bridge Township Planning Board has approved a massive new shopping center to be built on Rt. 9 south near the Oaks at Glenwood development.

The approval was first reported by the Home News Tribune; the Old Bridge Planning Board approved the shopping center at their Dec. 7 meeting last week.

The shopping center will be called Glenwood Green and it will be built on Rt. 9 south at Schulmeister Road, according to these plans made public by the developer. It will consist of 600,000 square feet of retail stores, restaurants and office space.

The developer is Regency Centers, a developer of shopping centers nationwide. Regency submitted these proposals of what they are planning to build, which the Old Bridge Planning Board made publicly available online.

There will be no residential housing, said the developer. The developer also said in this required Traffic Assessment that it expects minimal impact to traffic.

"There are no residences proposed as part of the proposed shopping center development that would add population to the Township. Therefore, no impact is anticipated to the population of Old Bridge ... and therefore would not add any additional school-age children to potentially impact the Township school system," said Regency in this Community Impact Statement.

However, as part of getting approval to build the shopping center, the developer did agree to set aside a future dedicated school site and a fire house site to offset any impacts the new shopping center will have on Old Bridge municipal services.

A recreational component will also be part of the development. More details were not made available.

The developer has been trying to build a shopping center there since 1995, the Home News reported. The Home News also reports the Old Bridge ShopRite will be relocating across the street to the complex and will be an anchor tenant.
