Old Bridge Man Led Police On Car Chase, Charged With DWI: Police

An Old Bridge man and woman led police on a car chase Wednesday afternoon that led to the lockdown of East Brunswick schools.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — An Old Bridge man and woman led police on a car chase Wednesday afternoon that led to the lockdown of East Brunswick schools.

Additionally, the Old Bridge man who was driving — George Noonan, 37, of Laurence Harbor — was also driving while intoxicated and rammed a police car, said police.

At 2:26 p.m. Wednesday, an East Brunswick Police officer was on patrol on Rt. 18 southbound near Tices Lane when he observed a white Honda with fictitious license plates.

He tried to pull the car over, but the Honda failed to stop and instead fled. Believing the vehicle may be stolen, Patrolman Welch pursued the car from Rt. 18 onto Cranbury Road.

The driver stopped the vehicle, placed it in reverse and struck Patrolman Welch’s patrol car.

Out of an abundance of caution, East Brunswick public schools in the area were placed into shelter-in-place to ensure safety.

The suspect vehicle continued to flee and ultimately turned onto Deerfield Road, where Noonan got out of the car and ran on foot. There was a brief police pursuit and he was taken into custody.

While being taken into custody, the suspect continued to resist arrest. Patrolman Welch received on-scene medical treatment for injuries he sustained.

Noonan was transported to Raritan Bay Hospital in Old Bridge for an evaluation and to treat injuries he sustained.

Noonan was charged with aggravated assault, eluding, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated. He also had active warrants from Middlesex County and Old Bridge.

His passenger, Kellymari Gangi, 30, also from Laurence Harbor, was found to have an active warrant from Middlesex County.
