OLD BRIDGE, NJ — This July, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. announced he secured $2.25 million for Old Bridge to build a new recreation building in Laurence Harbor.

This is a new multipurpose building Old Bridge Township plans to build along the Raritan Bay beachfront. This will be a two-story community building; it will be used for recreation on the first floor and open space on the second floor, which could be rented out by the public.

It will be called the Laurence Harbor Community Building.

“During these difficult economic times it’s important to recognize the need to increase and encourage recreational opportunities for our working families. We are excited to share the proposed conceptual plans for the Laurence Harbor Community Building,” said Old Bridge Mayor Owen Henry.

“This is the first step towards the revitalization of Old Bridge’s waterfront, which will spur economic growth," he added. "The Township is currently working on designating the Laurence Harbor area as an area in need of redevelopment, which will drive reinvestment and redevelopment opportunities.”

The funding has not yet been fully secured. It is part of the appropriations subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee spending bill for Fiscal Year 2023. The House is expected to vote on the underlying legislation in the coming months.

“I’m glad I was able to secure funding for Old Bridge to construct a new building for residents to use for recreation and community activities,” Pallone said. “I look forward to seeing this project move through the legislative process.”
