Perth Amboy Train Station Getting Major Renovations
The Perth Amboy train station will be getting a $45 million makeover, getting new high-level platforms, new elevators, stairs and ramps.

PERTH AMBOY, NJ — The Perth Amboy train station will be getting a $45 million makeover, getting new high-level platforms, new elevators, stairs and ramps, NJ Transit announced Wednesday.
These are major renovations that will be made to the train station, which is at Smith and Market streets in Perth Amboy.
The Perth Amboy station was built in 1927. It was built in the Renaissance Revival architectural style and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The station’s distinctive design elements will be preserved in the newly designed station, promised NJ Transit.
The project calls for the construction of two new high-level platforms as well as four new elevators and additional ramps and stairs providing access to the platforms. Upon completion of the project, the station will meet the requirements under the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Other improvements include renovation of restrooms, the installation of upgraded security cameras, as well as repairs to both the eastbound and westbound buildings as well as to the pedestrian bridge.
NJ Transit awarded the $45,545,000 contract to Hall Construction Co., Inc. of Wall, N.J. to perform the work. The work will begin before the end of 2021.
Before the pandemic, the Perth Amboy station served an average of 874 weekday customer trips before the pandemic.
