Sayreville May Build Rainbow Bridge To Honor Deceased Pets
The idea was inspired by the Rainbow Bridge in Lake Lure, North Carolina.
SAYREVILLE, NJ — Sayreville is considering building a rainbow bridge to memorialize beloved family pets who died.
The bridge would be very similar to the rainbow bridge in Lake Lure, North Carolina. For decades, the small resort community maintained a rainbow bridge, on which children and families could place the collars of their beloved cats and dogs. Sadly, the Lake Lure rainbow bridge was destroyed by historic flooding in Hurricane Helene in the fall of 2024. The flash flooding from that storm killed nearly 100 people in rural western North Carolina.
Sayreville is now is asking for the public's opinion on whether they would like a similar rainbow bridge in that town. The town is asking the public where such a bridge should go.

"If you would like to share your thoughts on this project please email Nicole in the Clerk's Office at nicole@sayreville.com," the town of Sayreville posted to their Facebook page Thursday.
"The idea was inspired by the Rainbow Bridge at Lake Lure, North Carolina, where visitors leave collars, tags and small tributes along a bridge railing to honor pets they’ve loved. Over time, it has become a colorful and heartfelt place that celebrates the bond between people and their animals."
