Flooding Shuts Down North Jersey Coast Line

CENTRAL JERSEY — *Update: Service on the North Jersey Coast line resumed as of 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

North Jersey Coast Line is currently not operating as of 2 p.m. Thursday due to flooding on the tracks.

The several hours of intense rainfall have caused widespread flooding: There is flooding on Rt. 9 in Old Bridge, with cars stuck in the roadway, and flooding is widespread in Sayreville, too. Rt. 35 in Keyport is flooded as well, and cars are reportedly stuck on the highway.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Monmouth County in central New Jersey until 2:30 p.m.

Central Jersey is also under a flash flood warning until 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

At 2:02 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located over Middletown, or near Sandy Hook, moving east at 15 mph. 60 mph wind gusts were reported, said the National Weather Service. Expect damage to trees and power lines.
