Sayreville Woman Killed By Live-In Boyfriend, Police Say

A Sayreville woman was found dead in her apartment last week, and police say she was killed by her live-in boyfriend.

SAYREVILLE, NJ — A Sayreville woman was found dead in her apartment last week, and police say she was killed by her live-in boyfriend.

Police found the body of Barbara Andronico, 62, inside her apartment in the Winding Wood complex at 3:48 a.m. last Thursday, May 19.

It is unknown who called 911, but police were called there for a report of an unresponsive woman. Andronico was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor did not release how exactly she as killed, but police identified Michael Hodges, 63, as the man who killed her. Hodges lived with the woman and the two were boyfriend and girlfriend, said the prosecutor.

The woman's autopsy is not complete, so her cause of death is not yet known, said a spokesman for the county prosecutor.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Andronico had a career in early childcare, working as the assistant director of several day cares and pre-schools throughout New Jersey. Daily Voice has a photo of the couple.

In Lodi this same week, police say a woman was stabbed to death by her husband, who she previously had taken out several restraining orders against.

Hodges was taken into police custody later that same day without incident in Sayreville. He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree aggravated assault and one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He remains in the Middlesex County Jail.

However, to help prosecute this case, Sayreville Police ask that anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Szkodny at (732)747-4444 or Detective Kelley at (732)745-3330.

This case is being investigated by, and the arrest was made by Detective Brian Szkodny of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Walter Kelley of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
