Staged Fire at Cheesequake State Park Wednesday

If you saw smoke by Exit 120 off the Parkway, that's because the state Forest Fire Service started a controlled burn at 10 a.m.

Did you see smoke near the Garden State Parkway today? That’s likely because the New Jersey Forest Fire Service is conducting a controlled burn throughout the day Wednesday at Cheesequake State Park.

The controlled fire started at 10 a.m. and covered a range of about 15 acres. Smoke may be visible near Exit 120 of the Garden State Parkway, the Forest Fire Service advised.

Officials routinely schedule controlled burns to reduce the risk of forest fires.
