Summer Reading, Math Packets Released for Matawan-Aberdeen Students

See what books and math sets your children need to complete for the fall.

School just let out last week but students can get ahead with their summer reading this summer. Matawan-Aberdeen Township School District released their reading and math activities lists for students in all grades.

Children entering grades first through fifth are expected to return to school with a Summer Reading Record Sheet, according to the school district’s website. On the record sheet, students and parents are asked to record the titles and authors of all of the books read during the summer then complete a summer reading activity.

Students should bring their completed Summer Reading Activity and Summer Math Packet with them when they return the first week of school.

According to the site, children will not be graded on the Summer Reading Activity but the sheet must be completed and brought back to school to be shared with the class any day during the month of September.

Teachers will sign and return the Summer Reading Record Sheet to the students and distribute Award Certificates to students who complete the Summer Reading Program. Students who do not complete the program before September will have an opportunity to read, submit the Record Sheet and share the activity during the month of September.

For students in grades sixth through eighth, students are asked to read one of the books from a “required” list, and complete one activity for that book from the Choice Board which accompanies the list. The district has also provided other suggested titles, in addition to a list of titles arranged by reading level, according to the site. Then return the completed activity to school the first day.

High school students also have summer reading and math activity sheets to be completed for the first day of school. Students can find their required books and required math prompts at marsd.org.
