3 Mendham Twp. Officers Save Man Who Collapsed During 4th Of July Parade

The man is "doing well" and in recovery, according to authorities. Officers used an AED and performed CPR.

A man who collapsed and was rescued by three Mendham Township Police officers during the Brookside 4th of July Parade over the weekend is "doing well" and in recovery, according to authorities.

According to police, around 10:30 a.m., an officer was on patrol at East Main Street and Tingley Road for the annual Brookside 4th of July Parade when he observed a 43-year-old man collapse.

EMS was immediately requested and officer Doug Large began to provide care to the man, who was unconscious. About two minutes later, when two additional officers arrived, an AED was applied and one shock was given. The officers started CPR as well.

Mendham Borough EMS arrived and the patient was loaded into the ambulance; a pulse was detected and he was transported to Morristown Medical center.

Police said during transport, the patient regained consciousness prior to their arrival at the hospital.

"As of this morning, the family is reporting the patient is doing well and is in recovery," police said in a statement.

"MTPD would like to thank everyone’s fast actions and response including Mendham Boro EMS and the Atlantic Paramedics from Morristown to this incident and wish the patient and his family a speedy and healthy recovery," police said.
